Gran Gran Spain Tour

An Epic THT Road Trip Through the Heart of Spanish Cuisine

The Gran Gran Spain Tour

The Gran Gran Spain Tour

The Gran Gran Spain Road Trip is a rare opportunity to experience some of Spain’s greatest restaurants in places most travelers never reach.

We begin in Galicia, one of the world’s true seafood capitals, with a feast at Michelin-starred Asador O'Pazo, followed by d'Berto, a restaurant many serious eaters describe as one of the greatest seafood meals of their lives.

From there, we move inland to Castilla y León for the legendary Bodega El Capricho.

The road then winds through Asturias, with the wood-fired purity of La Huertona, the coastal brilliance of Güeyu Mar, and the three-Michelin-starred Casa Marcial, before ending in the Basque Country with the elemental perfection of Etxebarri.

This is Spain away from the obvious route: seafood, fire, countryside, coast, and terroir, one unforgettable table at a time.

The Journey

Every meal on this journey has a reason.

Some are seafood temples on the Atlantic.

Some are old masters of fire, meat, fish, and land.

Some are family houses, coastal rooms, countryside legends, and places most travelers would never reach on their own.

Together, they move from Galicia to Castilla y León, through Asturias, and finally to the Basque Country, showing a Spain that is deeper, wilder, and much less obvious.

This is not a checklist.

This is Spain off the main road, table by table.

I’ve read enough. Take me to registration!

Galicia

Asador O'Pazo

Asador O'Pazo Michelin star

Asador O'Pazo is one of Galicia’s essential tables—quietly confident, deeply rooted, and utterly precise. Located in Padrón, the Michelin-starred restaurant is run by the Vidal brothers, whose cooking is centered on wood fire and respect for place.

Atlantic seafood arrives pristine and is treated with restraint; vegetables come from nearby fields; and the famed Rubia Gallega beef is grilled with exacting control. Nothing is dressed up, nothing is forced. What you taste is Galicia—clean, powerful, and honest.

Thoughtful service and a serious wine list complete an experience that rewards attention and never seeks applause.

d'Berto

d'Berto

D'Betro is one of these restaurants you start missing when you’re still in them.

Nestled in O Grove, Galicia, D'Berto is a Michelin-starred haven for seafood enthusiasts. Renowned for its unparalleled quality and variety, it’s among the world’s best. If not the best.

Imagine savoring plump shrimp, exotic percebes (goose barnacles), and various other delicacies, simply prepared to unlock their natural essence. While some dishes are served raw, others are grilled or steamed to perfection.

The true star is unquestionably the seafood. Prepare yourself for a luxurious, taste-bud-tingling experience celebrating Galicia’s rich maritime bounty.

Castilla y León

Bodega El Capricho

Bodega El Capricho

El Capricho, located in León, Spain, transcends traditional culinary boundaries under the stewardship of José Gordon.

This restaurant and shrine to meat is renowned for its commitment to excellence, from rearing its own oxen to championing sustainable farming. With a focus on the lifecycle of the animals, El Capriccio offers unparalleled quality and flavor, earning international acclaim and making it a pivotal destination for meat connoisseurs worldwide.

Join us for an unforgettable ‘El Capricho Experience’ with José Gordon. Begin with a pastoral tour of the lush fields where his prized animals roam, followed by a visit to his caves where Spain’s best cecina is aged for four years and his exclusive beef aging rooms, where steaks mature up to 180 days.

Conclude with a dream Beef Fiesta, featuring a steak crowned as the world’s best. Discover the art of meat in the heart of León, Spain.

Asturias

La Huertona

La Huertona

La Huertona, a rustic‑chic gem just outside Ribadesella on the Sella River, is helmed by chef José Manuel Viejo and his wife Rosa Ruisánchez. For nearly 40 years, they’ve focused on pristine Cantabrian seafood and meats cooked over oak-wood embers, sourcing daily from local markets.

Rosa crafts contemporary starters, stews, and desserts—highlighting seasonal produce like tender peas—while José’s grilling mastery brings out fresh hake, salmonete, lobster salpicón, and the famed angulas.

Güeyu Mar

Güeyu Mar

How about a visit to the world-renowned Güeyu Mar Conserves factory followed by lunch at Restaurante Güeyu Mar?

Restaurante Güeyu Mar, nestled in the picturesque coastal village of Ribadesella, Asturias, stands as a beacon of culinary innovation, mainly celebrated for its exceptional approach to seafood.

This esteemed establishment transcends traditional boundaries by integrating seafood conserves factory, showcasing a commitment to quality and sustainability.

This pioneering initiative allows Güeyu Mar to capture the essence of the sea, preserving the freshness and flavor of its catches through meticulous canning processes. The conserves, ranging from sardines to razor clams, not only testify to the restaurant’s dedication to craftsmanship but also serve as a bridge connecting diners to the rich maritime heritage of Asturias.

By offering these artisanal conserves, Güeyu Mar extends its culinary experience beyond the restaurant, allowing enthusiasts to savor the taste of the Cantabrian Sea at home. This blend of traditional techniques with modern gastronomy underscores Güeyu Mar’s status as a trailblazer in Spain’s culinary scene, making it a must-visit destination for seafood lovers.

Casa Marcial

Casa Marcial Michelin starMichelin starMichelin star

Casa Marcial, nestled in La Salgar near Arriondas in Asturias, is a family-run gastronomic powerhouse now with three Michelin stars and a Green Star for sustainability. Headed by Nacho Manzano, alongside sister Esther (kitchen), Sandra (front of house), and nephew Jesús, the team preserves deep local roots in the very home where Nacho grew up.

The cuisine reflects Asturias’s bounty—from Cantabrian seafood and freshwater fish to pasture-raised poultry and woodland produce—offered through three tasting menus (€130–220) alongside à la carte highlights like grilled peas with hake cheek. Their philosophy emphasizes zero-mile sourcing, with produce from their Narbasu garden, reviving native varieties, and full waste recycling.

Set in a rustic, stone-beamed dining room overlooking Picos de Europa foothills, Casa Marcial blends heartfelt tradition, contemporary technique, and profound respect for locality, earning its place at Spain’s culinary summit.

Basque Country

ASADOR Etxebarri

ASADOR Etxebarri Michelin star

Asador Etxebarri, ranked #2 on the world’s 50 best restaurants list, is nestled deep in the Urkiola mountains of Vizcaya, surrounded by green fields and craggy peaks.

Chef Bittor Arginzoniz dominates the most primal, most basic, most ancient element: fire. He delicately applies this element to the best raw ingredients, elevating them as close as possible to their Platonic ideal.
